The idea of the Miracle food drive was started by community members who were concerned about how the community could support each other during the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by similar events held in Chatham-Kent, Windsor-Essex, North West Territories, Montreal decided to run an event on September 13th, 2020 when Montrealers showed their generosity in full force. The miracle is an opportunity for everyone to participate in making a difference in our community.
On September 13th 2020, thousands of the residents of Greater Montreal participated in Miracle du 13 Septembre to provide food to people who need it. In one day, more than 2,000 volunteers pick up shopping bags and boxes of food from over 10,000 doorways, porches, lobbies, steps and driveways.
According to Centraide du Grand Montreal, 28% of adults had difficulty accessing food in Greater Montreal during the lockdown.* It’s time to come together again and support those in need in our community. It is one day for everyone in Montreal to take action and support each other. *Source: Food insecurity (centraide-mtl.org)
